Visual Inspection

A visual inspection for loose, disconnected, damaged, or misrouted wires and/or hoses should be made prior to diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system. A thorough visual inspection will help find these faults and save unnecessary testing and diagnostic time.

VISUAL INSPECTION

1. Check the ignition coil electrical connections.

Canister Purge And EGR Solenoids:





2. Check the canister purge solenoid vacuum and electrical connections.
3. Check the EGR solenoid vacuum and electrical connections.

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor:





4. Check the MAP sensor vacuum and electrical connections.

Vapor Canister:





5. Check the hose connections at the vapor canister.
6. Check the alternator wiring connections and belt condition.

Throttle Body Wiring Connections:





7. Check the throttle body wiring connections.
8. Check the PCV hose condition and connections at the intake manifold and valve cover.
9. Check the throttle body vacuum line condition and connections.
10. Check the battery cable connections and condition.
11. Check the heated air door vacuum line condition and connections.
12. Check the hose condition and connections at the back pressure transducer.
13. Check the power brake and speed control vacuum lines condition and connections.
14. check secondary ignition cable condition, connection, and routing.

Coolant Temperature Sensor:





15. Check coolant temperature sensor electrical connection.
16. Check battery ground connection at left side cylinder head.

Electrical Connections:





17. Check distributor electrical connections.
18. Check radiator fan electrical connections.
19. Check oil pressure switch electrical connections.

Automatic Transmission Electrical Connections:





20. Check neutral safety switch.
21. Check torque convertor lockup solenoid electrical connection (A/T only).

Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC):





22. Check the Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) connector for proper seating.

Relay Location/Identification:





23. Check the relay electrical connections.

Main Harness To Engine Harness Connections:





24. Check engine harness electrical connections.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS):





25. Check distance sensor electrical connection.
26. Check the engine ground strap at the intake manifold and dash panel.
27. Check the oxygen sensor electrical connection.
28. Check the fuel pump fuel and electrical connections.
