Power Window Switch: Testing and Inspection

Power Window Switch Continuity Charts:

This vehicle is equipped with an auto-down feature. This allows the driver to lower the left front window without having to hold the switch in the down position. Pressing the left front window switch past the first detent will activate the auto-down feature.

To test the left front door master switch:
Operate the switch in both manual and auto-down modes. If the window switch does not operate properly in all modes, replace the switch with a know good switch.

To test the right or rear switches:
1. Remove the power window switch from its mounting.
2. Turn the ignition key to the on position. Check for available power by probing the TN wire with a test light.
^ If power is available, go to step 3.
^ If power is not available, check the circuit breaker and the wiring.
3. Use a small flat bladed screw driver to release the wiring harness lock tabs and carefully separate the wiring from the back of the switch.
4. Use an ohmmeter to check the switch for proper continuity in the indicated switch positions.
^ If the proper switch continuity results are not obtained, replace the switch.
