SYMPTOM CONDITION
Automatic height control does not operate after repairs have been performed on the rear suspension.
DIAGNOSIS
With the vehicle on a level surface with the engine running and the deck lid closed, have two people sit in the rear seat. If the automatic height system does not compensate for the added load, the problem may be that the right rear shock absorber has been improperly installed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Inside the right rear shock absorber there are two permanent magnets which act together as a magnetic switch that is used to sense vehicle height. If the magnetic switch is to operate correctly, the magnets must be positioned correctly inside the shock.
Figure 1:
When installing the right rear shock, both the wiring harness pigtail on the top of the shock and the paint mark on the lower mounting eyelet must both face forward. If the paint mark on the lower part of the shock does not line up with the pigtail, the load sensing feature of the shock will not work. See Figure 1.
