Front Coil Spring Replace
1. Remove strut damper assembly as outlined previously.2. Using spring compressor tool No. 4838 or equivalent, compress coil spring.
3. On all except 1990 models with variable damping, remove strut rod nut while holding strut rod to prevent rotation.

4. On 1990 models with variable damping, hold strut rod retaining plate with tool No. 6430 or equivalent to prevent strut rod rotation.

5. On all models, remove mount assembly.
6. Remove coil spring from strut damper.
7. Inspect mount assembly for deterioration of rubber isolator, retainers for cracks and distortion and bearings for binding.
8. Install bumper dust shield assembly.

9. Install spring and seat, upper spring retainer, bearing and spacer, mount assembly, rebound bumper and retainer and rod nut. Position spring upper retainer tab or notch correctly with respect to bottom bracket.

10. On 1990 models with variable damping, align strut rod electrical connector as follows:
a. Align flat on strut rod and one retaining stud on mount within 15° in opposite direction from spring seat alignment notch.
11. On models less variable damping, torque strut rod nut to specification. On models with variable damping, hold retaining plate and strut rod with tool No. 6340 and torque strut rod nut to specification.
NOTE: Do not release spring compressor before torquing nut.
12. Remove spring compressor tool.
