Impact Sensor: Service and Repair

Before attempting to diagnose, remove or install any airbag system component, you must first disarm the airbag system, as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ARMING AND DISARMING. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment and possible personal injury.

LEFT SENSOR

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then wait at least 2 minutes before working on vehicle.
2. Disconnect speed control servo from battery tray.
3. Remove battery, battery tray and coolant bottle.
4. Disconnect sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove three screws holding sensor to radiator closure panel and remove sensor.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque mounting screws to 100 lb-in.
7. Do not connect battery ground cable. Refer to Air Bag Systems/Testing and Inspection/Procedures.

RIGHT SENSOR

1. Disconnect and isolate battery ground cable, then wait at least 2 minutes before working on vehicle.
2. Disconnect sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove three screws holding sensor to engine side of closure panel and remove right sensor.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Torque mounting screws to 100 lb-in.
5. Do not connect battery ground cable. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURES/TESTING PROCEDURES/SYSTEM CHECK for proper procedure.
