Diagnostic Strategies
Before attempting to diagnose, remove or install any airbag system components, you must first disconnect and isolate the battery ground cable. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment and possible personal injury.1. Disconnect and isolate battery ground cable and wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding .
2. Connect DRBII readout tool to Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM) connector, as outlined under "Self Diagnostic Procedure."
3. Turn ignition to ON position and exit vehicle with DRBII.
4. Ensure no one is inside of vehicle, then connect battery ground cable.
5. Read and record self diagnostic codes as outlined under "Self Diagnostics Procedure."
6. If fault codes are present, refer to "System Testing."
7. If no active fault codes are present, erase stored faults. If malfunction remains, fault codes will not erase.
8. With ignition in ON position, ensure no one is inside of vehicle.
9. From passenger side of vehicle, turn ignition key to OFF then ON position and observe instrument panel airbag warning light. Light should go out after six to eight seconds, indicating system is operating correctly. If airbag warning light does not illuminate, or goes on and stays on, there is a system malfunction. Refer to"System Testing" for diagnostic procedures.
