Headlamp Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair
Multi-function Switch:
Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair. After procedure has been completed, rearm airbag system.
REMOVAL
The multi-function switch contains electrical circuitry for turn signal, cornering lamps, hazard warning, headlamp dimmer, windshield wiper, pulse wipe and windshield washer switching. This switch is mounted to the lefthand side of the steering column. Should any function of the switch fail, the entire switch assembly must be replaced.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove tilt lever, then upper and lower steering column covers.
3. Remove multi-function switch tamper proof attaching screws.
4. Carefully pull switch away from steering column. Loosen electrical connector screw. Screw will remain in connector.
5. Disconnect electrical connector from multi-function switch, then remove switch.
INSTALLATION
1. Install electrical connector to switch and torque retaining screw to 17 lb-in.
2. Mount multi-function switch on column and torque attaching screws to 17 lb-in.
3. Install upper and lower steering column covers and torque attaching screws to 17 lb-in.
4. Install tilt lever.
5. Connect battery ground cable.
6. Check all functions of switch for proper operation.
