Headlamp: Description and Operation

General System Description

NOTE: Refer to the owners manual provided with vehicle for operation of specific Concealed Headlamp System.
The concealed headlamp system is controlled by the body controller (located behind the right kick panel in most vehicles). The body controller receives information from the ignition switch, headlamp switch, and the dimmer switch. The body controller is programmed to open the headlamp doors in three modes:
1. When the head lamp switch is in the "ON" position.
2. When the dimmer switch is actuated with the headlight switch in the "OFF". In this mode the body controller holds the headlamp doors open for 2 seconds, or until the dimmer switch is released.
3. When the headlight switch is in the PARKING LIGHT position, and the dimmer switch is actuated. In this mode the headlight doors will remain open until the headlight switch is turned "OFF".
A single, centrally located motor, linked to the headlamp doors by a tosion bar is used.
The headlamp doors are equipped with a manual override hand wheel to open or close the doors in the event of system failure. Hand wheels are located behind a flap in the sight shield behind the bumper facia.
