Brake Fluid Level Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

Early Production ABS Operation

A fluid level sensor is located in the reservoir cap of the hydraulic assembly. The fluid level sensor sends a signal to the BRAKE warning lamp, the Anti-lock Brake Control Module (ABM) and Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), if so equipped. Upon detection of low fluid, the BRAKE warning lamp is illuminated, and after a 2 second delay, the ABCM disables the anti-lock function by turning on the ANTI-LOCK warning lamp. The sensor consists of a float and magnetic reed switch which closes when low fluid is detected.

The fluid level sensor is a serviceable part.
