Internally, each shock and strut has a Soft position feedback switch, a Firm position feedback switch, a motor and fluid bypass orifices. The position feedback switches monitor the position of the motor. The switches then supply this information to the VDCM. The motor varies the size of the fluid orifices in the shocks and struts to achieve the three different damping settings. At the top of each shock and strut is a connector which electrically connects it to the VDCM.
