5 Check For Power Feed to Coil Primary Control Circuits

Perform No Start Test 1 before proceeding.

1. Turn ignition switch Off, then disconnect black/gray wire from negative coil connection.
2. Turn ignition switch On, enter diagnostic read-out tool into``Actuate Outputs''test, then select ``Ignition Coil.''
3. Press Volt/Ohm button to enter into voltmeter mode, then check voltage at negative coil connection.
4. If voltmeter reads below 10 volts, replace ignition coil and perform Test 16.
5. If voltmeter reads above 10 volts, check voltage at disconnected black/gray wire.
6. If voltmeter still reads above 10 volts, replace ignition coil and perform Test 16.
7. If voltmeter still reads below 10 volts, turn ignition switch off and disconnect 14-way connector at SMEC.
8. Inspect connector terminals damage. If terminals are damaged or pushed out, repair as necessary.
9. If connector terminals are not damaged, ensure coil negative wire is not touching ground.
10. Press Volt/Ohm button on read-out tool to enter into ohmmeter mode, then touch probe to terminal No. 12 of 14-way connector.
11. If ohmmeter shows continuity, repair short to ground in black/gray wire of terminal No. 12 of harness.
12. If ohmmeter shows no continuity, connect a jumper wire between black/gray wire and ground.
13. Touch ohmmeter probe to terminal No. 12 of 14-way connector.
14. If ohmmeter shows continuity, replace the SMEC and perform Test 16.
15. If ohmmeter shows no continuity, repair open circuit in black/gray wire between coil and 14-way connector, then perform Test 16.
