General System Description
Fig. 1 Variable Dampening Suspension Components:
The Variable Damping Suspension (VDS) system, allows the driver to select between three different suspension calibrations; Firm, Normal or Soft, whenever the ignition switch is On.
Suspension control is provided by an electric motor driven valve in each strut and shock absorber that can change the fluid bypass orifices in each unit. The size of the fluid orifices are varied to obtain the three suspension calibrations. The VDS system only controls vehicle ride and does not control vehicle height.
The VAS system consists of variable damping struts and shock absorbers, a Variable Damping Control Module (VDCM) and selector switches.
