Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

Lock Plate Removal:




Turn Signal Switch Replacement:





Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair. After procedure has been completed, rearm airbag system.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove horn button and switch and steering wheel nut, then the steering wheel as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT R&R PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
3. Remove instrument panel lower bezel and steering column cover.
4. On models with tilt steering column, remove transaxle gearshift indicator, then two nuts attaching steering column to lower panel. Remove four attaching bolts, then the bracket from column.
5. On models less tilt column, position gearshift lever into its full clockwise position. On models with tilt column, place gearshift lever to its midway position.
6. On models with tilt column, carefully remove plastic cover from lock plate, then depress lock plate with lock plate depressing tool No. C-4156 or equivalent and remove snap ring. Remove lock plate, canceling cam and upper bearing spring from steering shaft.
7. On all models, remove turn signal lever attaching screws and lever. On models with speed control allow lever to hang from column.
8. Remove turn signal switch and upper bearing attaching screws. Carefully remove turn signal switch, while guiding wire up through column opening.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
