Visual Inspection
A visual inspection for loose, disconnected or misrouted wiring and hoses should be made prior to attempting to diagnose fuel injection system malfunctions. The visual inspection should include the following checks:1988-89
1. Check ignition coil electrical connectors.
2. Ensure canister purge solenoid and MAP sensor electrical connector is secure.
3. Ensure EGR diagnostic solenoid electrical connector is secure, if equipped.
4. Ensure vacuum connection at canister purge solenoid and EGR diagnostic solenoid is secure and not leaking.
5. Ensure MAP sensor vacuum hose is attached at MAP sensor.
6. Ensure alternator wiring and belt are correctly installed and tightened.
7. Ensure vapor canister hoses are securely attached to vapor canister.
8. Ensure throttle body electrical connector is securely seated in wire harness.
9. Ensure AIS motor, throttle position sensor, throttle body temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor and fuel injector electrical connectors are secure.
10. Ensure hose from PCV valve is securely attached to intake manifold vacuum port.
11. Ensure front and rear throttle body vacuum connections are secure and not leaking.
12. Ensure heated air door vacuum connection is secure and not leaking.
13. Ensure back pressure transducer hoses are properly attached.
14. Ensure power brake and speed control vacuum connectors are secure.
15. Ensure battery ground cable and all ignition cables are properly attached.
16. Ensure distributor, radiator fan, oil pressure switch, neutral safety switch and torque converter lockup solenoid electrical connectors are securely seated.
17. Ensure SMEC 60-way and 14 way electrical connectors are securely seated in socket.
18. Ensure oxygen sensor, distance sensor and starter relay ground electrical connectors are securely seated.
19. Ensure engine ground strap is attached at engine and dash panel.
20. Ensure fuel pump hose and electrical connectors are properly attached.
