This bulletin is being issued to familiarize you with the airbag restraint system components and the precautions to be taken when servicing the system. You will be receiving additional information, in the near future, that will provide further details and diagnostic instructions for servicing the system.
The airbag system is provided to supplement the driver seat belt restraint system. The following are the major components of the airbag restraint system including:

* Airbag Module
* Steering Wheel Unique Steering Column
* Clockspring Switch Assembly
* Front Impact Sensors
* Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM) Dedicated Special Wiring Harness

Please read the appropriate service section thoroughly before attempting diagnosis, removal or installation. The components marked with an asterisk (*) cannot be repaired. Corrections can be made with part replacement only!

WARNING: THIS SYSTEM IS A COMPLEX, ELECTRO-MECHANICAL UNIT. BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DIAGNOSE, REMOVE OR INSTALL ANY AIRBAG SYSTEM COMPONENTS YOU MUST FIRST DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE NEGATIVE (GROUND) BATTERY CABLE. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

An airbag system warning light in the instrument panel will illuminate when a malfunction exists. Before servicing the system, read the appropriate service section thoroughly before attempting diagnosis, removal or installation of any airbag system components.
