DIAGNOSIS

As a precautionary measure, if a vehicle is suspected of having a fault with the airbag restraint system, the following procedure should be used before moving the vehicle around the service repair area.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable and then disconnect the two-way squib connector at the base of the steering column. The squib connector is bright yellow on late 1988 and all 1989 model vehicles. The squib connector may also be disconnected at the airbag diagnostic module (ASDM).

2. Reconnect the battery and drive the vehicle to the repair area.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable, reconnect the squib connector, and then reconnect the battery cable.

4. Perform system diagnostic checks and repair as necessary. Consult the appropriate service manual and TSB #23-07-88 for more information.
