Cylinder Head & Valve Plate

REMOVAL OR REPLACE

1. Discharge refrigerant from system, then remove compressor assembly as outlined under "Compressor, Replace."
2. Remove cylinder head retaining bolts. Tap cylinder head with a soft hammer to loosen cylinder head from valve plate.

3. Remove valve plate from cylinder block using a soft hammer and scraper.
4. Inspect valve plate and discharge retainer for damage, replace any component if any portion of it is damaged.
5. Using a sharp scraper, remove any gasket on head, valve plate and cylinder housing, being careful to avoid scratching sealing surfaces. Ensure cylinder head bores are free of all gasket material.

INSTALLATION

Valve plate is replaceable only as as assembly complete with suction and discharge valves and gaskets.

1. Apply thin coat of refrigerant oil on surface of new gasket.
2. Position cylinder gasket on cylinder block locating pins
3. Install valve plate in position on locating pins.
4. Install and lightly tighten head bolts. Torque all bolts to 22-25 ft. lbs. in sequence shown.
