Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

All 1984-86 Models & 1987 Models W/Turbo I

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect throttle body 6-way connector on all 1984-86 models and 1987 Shelby Charger or TPS electrical connector on 1987 models exc. Shelby Charger, Fig. 6.
3. Remove TPS-to-throttle body attaching screws.
4. Unfasten wiring clip from convoluted tube, then remove mounting bracket.
5. Lift TPS off throttle shaft and remove O-ring.
6. Disconnect three TPS wires from convoluted tubing on all 1984-86 models and 1987 Shelby Charger.
7. Lift each locking tab inside 6-way connector with a small screwdriver and remove TPS wire blade terminals. Note position of wires for assembly reference.
8. Reverse procedure to install, using new O-ring. Torque TPS attaching screws to 17-20 inch lbs.



1987 Models W/Turbo II & All 1988-89 Models

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect throttle position sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove throttle position sensor to throttle body attaching screws, then lift throttle position sensor off throttle shaft.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Torque sensor attaching screws to 17 inch lbs.
