This system is a back pressure type. A back pressure transducer measures the amount of exhaust back pressure on the exhaust side of the EGR valve and varies the strength of the vacuum signal applied to the EGR valve. The back pressure transducer adjusts the EGR signal to provide programmed amounts of exhaust gas recirculation under all other conditions.

1987-88 Turbo Models
This system is a back pressure type that is controlled in two ways. The logic module controls vacuum through the EGR solenoid, turning the vacuum circuit on or off. A back pressure transducer measures the amount of exhaust back pressure on the exhaust side of the EGR valve and varies the strength of the vacuum signal applied to the EGR valve. The logic module will prevent EGR operation by turning the EGR solenoid off when engine temperature is below 80°F or is above 80°F for less than 7 seconds. The back pressure transducer adjusts the EGR signal to provide programmed amounts of of exhaust recirculation under all other conditions.
