Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) Motor


All 1984-86 Models & 1987 Models W/Turbo I

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect throttle body 6-way connector on all 1984-86 models and 1987 Shelby Charger or AIS motor electrical connector on 1987 models exc. Shelby Charger.
3. Remove wiring clip from convoluted tube if necessary, then the AIS motor attaching screws and motor. Do not remove clamp on motor, as damage may result.
4. Remove two AIS wires from 6-way connector or from convoluted tubing on all 1984-86 models and 1987 Shelby Charger models. On all models, lift each locking tab inside connector with a small screwdriver and remove blade terminals. Note position of wires for assembly reference.
5. Remove AIS motor from adapter and remove O-rings from motor.
6. Reverse procedure to install, using new O-rings. Torque motor attaching screws to 17-20 inch lbs.


1987 Models W/Turbo II & All 1988-89 Models

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect AIS motor electrical connector.
3. Remove AIS motor to throttle body attaching screws, then the AIS motor from throttle body. Ensure O-ring in on AIS motor during removal.
4. Reverse procedure to install. If pintle measures more than 1 - 1-1/4 inches it must be retracted by using ATM test code 03.
