SYMPTOM/CONDITION
If the customer complains that, while using the speed control system, the vehicle speed does not remain steady, the likely cause is a malfunction of the distance sensor. The customer may experience intermittent speed loss and speed gain (surging) or a complete cut-out of the speed control system.
In most cases, the above problems will not occur until the vehicle has been driven at least 15 miles. This is because the sensor failure is affected by underhood temperature.
NOTE: VEHICLES BUILT AFTER MID-DECEMBER, 1986, WILL HAVE THE REVISED SENSOR INSTALLED FROM PRODUCTION.
