Vehicle List, Label Requirement, Owner Notification Information
Vehicle ListEach dealer to whom involved cars were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a listing of them with this letter, arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved cars.
Each Chrysler-Plymouth or Dodge dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter for use in performing the service on involved cars upon request.
California Recall Completion Label Requirement
Owners of cars registered in California only are being mailed a recall completion label to be delivered to dealers for installation at the time of service. This is a requirement of the State of California.
When the service has been completed, use a ball point pen to print your dealer code on the label. Peel the label from the backing and affix it near the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Label.
Each California dealer will also receive ten labels enclosed with this letter for use as spares. Additional labels may be obtained from the Los Angeles or San Francisco Zone Service Offices if needed. Ask for Recall #397 Completion Label.
Parts
Fuel Injector Recall Parts Packages, PN C3940292, are being shipped at dealer cost to involved dealers in each geographic region at the time of recall launch in that area. Each dealer will receive an initial supply equal to 1/4 of the number of cars shown on the Vehicle List. This will handle most of the recall requirements.
The package contains the following parts:
(1) Fuel Injector
(1) O-Ring, Lower Injector
(1) O-Ring, Cap
Billing for these parts will be delayed for 60 days. This will minimize dealer out-of-pocket expense by enabling dealers to submit claims for parts costs on cars serviced prior the billing.
It is expected that about 1/2 of the cars inspected will require injector replacement. Additional parts may be ordered from Parts Depots at dealer's cost in Zones where the recall has been started. Please order only as needed.
A 25% dealer claim parts allowance will be paid for injectors replaced, as explained in the Completion Reporting and Reimbursement section of this letter.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved car owners known to Chrysler will be notified of the service requirement by first class mail at the time of recall implementation in their geographical areas. Owners in the Western Region will be the first notified, starting in about one week. They will be requested to schedule appointments for the service with their dealers at the earliest possible date.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling (Continued)
Enclosed with each owner notification will be a Claim Form, #83-295-0018. The owner will be instructed to give the form to the dealer when delivering the car for service. Copy 1 of each form contains owner and dealer instructions and a Parts Return Tag. Copy 2 is for the dealer claim and Copy 3 for dealer records.
A Claim Form for each car whose owner is not known to Chrysler will be mailed to the dealer to whom the car was invoiced (or the current dealer at the same address) for dealer follow-up.
