A rich loading condition may exist directly following a cold start. This condition may be due to carburetor air intake system icing.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Installation of a delay valve in the vacuum line to the heat control door vacuum diaphragm.
1. Remove top of air cleaner.
2. Remove filter element.
3. Locate the vacuum line to the heat control door vacuum diaphragm.
4. Cut this vacuum line two to three inches before vacuum diaphragm.
5. Install the heated air delay valve, PN 4201385, in the following manner:
The white end toward the sensor (located in the top of the air cleaner assembly) and the black end toward the vacuum diaphragm.
6. Replace the filter element and the top of the air cleaner.
7. For California vehicles only:
From the hose routing label package, PN 4397710, install the appropriate hose routing label.
