87chrysler1No. 397
September, 1987
To: All Chrysler Motors Dealers
Subject: Emissions Recall #397 -- Fuel Injector
Models: All 1986 Passenger Cars With 2.2L or 2.5L EFI (Non-Turbo) Engine:
- Plymouth Caravelle and Reliant
- Dodge 600, Daytona, Aries and Lancer
- Chrysler New Yorker, Laser, LeBaron, Town & Country and LeBaron GTS
Also 1987 Plymouth Sundance and Dodge Shadow Built During 1986 Model Year Period and Equipped With Same 2.2L EFI Engine
The listed model cars equipped with 2.2L or 2.5L EFI engines may emit hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in excess of the Emissions Standards. This is a result of rich fuel injectors. To ensure compliance to the emissions standards, each involved vehicle must be inspected for the condition, and defective injectors must be replaced with revised parts.
Because of the large number of involved cars and limited availability of revised injectors at this time, initial parts distribution and owner notification will be limited to the Western Region Zones. Cars in the remainder of the country will be recalled about two months after the Western Region.
Note: To support this plan, parts will only be available for dealer orders in Zones where the recall has been started
A new diagnostic instrument DRBII (tm), will be used for this recall. All dealers will be shipped a DRBII in time for the start of the recall in their regions.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections. As an additional service aid, a videotape has been made to show the recall inspection and repair procedures, including the use of the DRBII. The videotape is included with the September, 1987 M.T.S.C. Program.
