SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Vehicles may experience poor radio reception or noise in AM and/or FM mode.

DIAGNOSIS

To determine if noise is due to blower motor, turn key to ignition on with engine not running. Turn blower on to the third or fourth speed. Turn radio on and tune to a weak AM or FM station which exhibits noise. Turn blower off and if noise is not present anymore, proceed to repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED

Blower Motor Noise Suppression Package PN 4443154

Consists of:

1 Capacitor Assembly - A/C Blower Motor PN 4443174
1 Self-Piercing Screw PN 6032473

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair advises the technician to install a capacitor assembly at the logic module.

1. Disconnect battery.

2. Remove glove box assembly.

3. Remove logic module per service manual procedures.

4. Lancer/LeBaron GTS Only

a. Punch or drill (with a #31 drill) a 3 mm hole on the right kick plate area (Figure 1).

b. Align capacitor assembly, PN 4443174, on right side kick area and mount with the self-piercing screw, PN 6032473 (Figure 2).

c. Disconnect the existing blower motor pigtail from wiring harness. Then connect the wires from capacitor assembly to connectors from wiring harness and blower motor.

5. Shadow/Sundance Only

a. Punch or drill (with a #31 drill) a 3 mm hole on the right kick plate area (Figure 3).

b. Align capacitor assembly, PN 4443174, on right side kick area and mount with the self-piercing screw (Figure 4).

c. Disconnect the existing blower motor pigtail from wiring harness. Then connect the wires from capacitor assembly to connectors from wiring harness and blower motor.
6. Install logic module per service manual procedures.

7. Reinstall glove box assembly.

8. Reconnect battery.

9. Verify blower motor operation and perform diagnosis to assure proper installation.
