SYMPTOM/CONDITION

After a cold start, the vehicle will load up, run rough, and may blow black smoke out the exhaust.

DIAGNOSIS

The cold start idle will be normal. As the engine begins to warm up and the temperature gauge starts to move, the engine will run rough and may blow black smoke. This condition will only last a few minutes and will be worse in ambient temperature below 35~F.

This repair involves the replacement of the lash adjusters, using the service manual procedures.
