This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin 08-20-87, which should be removed from your files. The error of omitting Step 3 of the repair procedure has been corrected.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Right rear electric door lock operation may be sluggish or erratic (motor may not fully lock or unlock latch). This condition may be due to a combination of low voltage, low motor output force and/or high locking system effort.

A new lock motor with increased output force entered production 3/1/87 (vehicles with an MDH of 03-01-XX). Therefore, this bulletin only applies to vehicles built before 3/1/87.

DIAGNOSIS

Remove door trim panel and water shield (per service manual procedure) to measure voltage at the right rear lock motor terminal wiring connector. Install meter across both lock motor wires (in parallel), and actuate switch.

NOTE: VOLTAGE SHOULD BE READ WHILE DOOR LOCK MOTOR IS IN THE STALLED (ACTUATED) POSITION.

If readings are below 7.5 volts, the lock motor must be replaced.
