Rapid air conditioning cycling (approximately two cycles per second) can occur on all subject model vehicles.. However, the effects are most noticeable on turbo vehicles equipped with manual transaxles. These vehicles will exhibit an idle "flare" or engine speed-up each time the air conditioning cycles on. The elements necessary to induce this condition are ambient temperatures below 30~F and the air conditioning control in the A/C or defrost mode.
One other factor which can contribute to this condition is a low freon charge in the air conditioning system. The system should be checked out and adjusted to specifications. If the cycling condition persists, it will be necessary to install an A/C ambient temperature switch. Use the following parts and repair procedure.
