A new light weight connecting rod entered production (Trenton - 4-17- 85, Saltillo - 5-21-85) in 2.2L engines. The light weight rod helps to reduce the reciprocating weight of the engine, thereby reducing noise and vibration.
FIGURE 1 - Connecting Rod:
1985 engines built with light weight rods will have "LW" ink stamped in the front engine block core (freeze) plug nearest the distributor. The light weight connecting rod can be identified by the letters "LW" cast in the shank of the rod as part of the casting number (Figure 1).
Light weight rods cannot be mixed with the heavy weight rods or a vibration will result. The rods can be interchanged only in complete sets of four.
The part number for the light weight rod is 4343725.
