Power Window Switch: Testing and Inspection

Power Window Switch Test:

To test the right (or rear) door switch:
1. Remove the switch from its mounting and remove the wiring harness from the back of the switch. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Connect a test light between the YL wire and a known good ground.
^ If the test light does not come on or is dim, check the circuit breaker and the wiring to the door switch.
^ If the test light comes on, go to step 2.
2. Connect jumper wires to the door harness as indicated, and operate the power windows from the master switch.
^ If the windows operate properly, the right (or rear) door switch is defective.
^ If the windows do not operate properly, leave the jumper wires connected and test the master switch.

To test the left front door master switch:
1. Remove the switch from its mounting, and connect a test light between the YL wire and BK wire.
^ If the test light does not come on or is dim, check the circuit breaker and the wiring to the left door switch.
^ If the test light comes on, go to step 2.
2. Connect jumper wires as shown to the left door harness and check for proper window movement.
^ If the window(s) do not operate properly, check the wiring, window switch(s), and the window motor(s).
^ If the windows operate properly, the master switch is defective.
