Vehicle List

Each dealer to which involved vehicles were invoiced will receive listings (separate for domestic and imported models) with this letter, arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The information is for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.

Dealers without Vehicle Lists will receive information copies of this letter, for use in performing the required service on other involved vehicles upon request.
Parts

Oil pump relief valve replacement parts packages, Recall Part Number C3940248, are being mailed free of charge to all involved dealers before owner notification. Each dealer will receive enough of these parts to service 100% of the vehicles shown on the corresponding Vehicle Lists. Additional requirements may be ordered without charge from parts depots when initial supplies have been exhausted. Please do not place additional orders before existing supplies are used.

Each parts package C3940248 contains the following items:

(1) Oil pump relief valve plunger (modified)
(1) Valve cover gasket
(1) Semi-circular packing - cylinder head shaft opening, right
(2) Chain case cover gaskets (one set)
(1) Oil pan gasket
(1) Spring washer - silent shaft chain guide attachment

Owner Notification and Service Scheduling

All involved vehicle owners known to Chrysler are being notified of this service requirement by first class mail. Owners are instructed to make appointments with Chrysler Corporation dealers of their choice for the required service. A copy of the owner notification letter is attached.

Dealers are urged to schedule all appointments promptly and courteously upon request, regardless of where the affected vehicles were purchased. Strong dealer commitment is essential for the success of this service program and the satisfaction of our customers -- our common goal.

Enclosed with the owner letters are Claim Forms, #83-295-0018 (10/82). Owners are instructed to give the forms to their dealers at the time of service. Each form provides owner and dealer instructions, a parts return tag and a Vehicle Disposition Form on Copy
1. (The latter is used to notify Chrysler of changes in vehicle possession.) Copy 2 is for the dealer claim and Copy 3 for dealer records.

Claim Forms for vehicles whose owners are not known to Chrysler will be mailed to the dealers to whom the vehicles were invoiced, for dealer follow-up.

IMPORTANT: Dealers are urged to service all involved stock vehicles before retail delivery, and to contact buyers who are not identified on the Vehicle List to schedule the service without delay.
