IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING CERTAIN MOPAR PERFORMANCE PARTS
^ EMISSIONS-RELATED PARTS ARE NOT LEGAL FOR HIGHWAY USE
^ AIR RESOURCES BOARD IS MONITORING DEALER SALES OF THESE PARTS
Certain Mopar Performance (formerly Direct Connection) parts are emissions-related, and are therefore not legal for highway use. They are intended for use only on vehicles which are used solely in sanctioned off-highway events.
It is illegal for dealers to install or offer to sell for installation on vehicles registered for highway use the following categories of Mopar Performance parts.
EMISSIONS-RELATED PARTS
^ Performance enhancing engine components and systems, ^ Headers, ^ Performance enhancing fuel system components, and
^ Performance enhancing ignition system components and electronic engine control units.
Dealers are advised to warn all prospective purchasers of the above performance enhancing parts that they are not legal for installation on a vehicle which is registered by the state for highway use. Do not sell or install these parts if the affected vehicle is registered for highway use.
Other parts and accessories offered by Mopar Performance are not considered to be emissions-related and there are no restrictions to their sale.
This information is being provided to dealers by Chrysler Motors at the specific request of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). We have been informed by CARB that it is monitoring the sale of performance enhancing parts, and its phone survey of several Chrysler Motors dealers indicated that some would install and/or sell these parts without determining if the vehicle was to be used on the highway. CARB also indicated it will perform another survey after our distribution of this letter, and will seek penalties (heavy fines) if it is then found that dealers improperly install and/or sell these parts.
We appreciate your attention to and compliance with this important matter.
