SYMPTOM/CONDITION
On early model 2.2L vehicles with throttle body fuel injection (T.B..I.) the idle adjustment screw lock plug may have been overtorqued in production beyond the recommended 20 inch pounds torque (Figure 1).
REPAIR PROCEDURE
The overtorque condition will require the use of an offset screw driver to break the lock plug loose before using Miller Special Tool C-4804 to adjust idle speed as outlined in 1984 Front Wheel Drive Service Manual, publication #81-270-4004, page 14-75. After performing an idle speed adjustment, plug screw to 20 inch pounds torque. DO NOT OVER-TOROUE.
