Visual Inspection
In order that the Turbocharged Electronic Fuel Injection System can function properly, all electrical, vacuum or air hose connections must be tight. Before proceeding with the diagnostic procedure, the following must be checked.ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Terminals in connectors must lock together. Look for connectors that are not fully plugged into each other or terminals that are not fully plugged into the insulator.
1. Underhood Connector's
a. Power module
b. A/C cutout relay
c. Starter relay
d. Radiator fan relay
e. Distributor
f. Coolant sensor
g. Charge sensor
h. Spark plug wires and coil wire
i. Fuel injectors
j. Throttle body
k. System ground eyelet on fuel rail
l. Engine harness to main harness
m. Alternator
n. Battery cables
o. Battery ground on engine
p. Engine to firewall ground strap
q. EGR/Canister purge solenoid
r. Ignition coil
s. Oxygen sensor
t. Speed switch
Behind Right Kick Pad Connectors
a. Logic module
b. Shutdown relay
c. M.A.P. sensor
Underbody Connections
a. Intake fuel pump
HOSE CONNECTIONS
All hoses must be fully and firmly fitted at their connections. Also, they cannot be pinched anywhere along their routing. Look for hoses that are not fully plugged in, or are pinched and cut.
PCV System
a. Hose between throttle body and PCV valve.
b. Hose between valve cover and air cleaner.
c. PCV valve plugged in.
d. Correct PCV valve. White in color.
EGR System
a. Hose between intake manifold and EGR solenoid.
b. Hose between EGR solenoid and back pressure valve.
c. Hose between back pressure valve and EGR valve.
d. Hose between back pressure valve and exhaust supply tube.
Evaporative Control System
a. Hose between canister purge solenoid and throttle body.
b. Hose between canister purge solenoid and canister.
c. Hose between canister and throttle body.
d. Hose between canister and vapor return line.
M.A.P. Sensor
a. Hose between intake manifold and firewall connector.
b. Hose between firewall connector and M.A.P. sensor.
