This TSB has been updated by TSB # 090384A, dated 4/30/84.

The engine oil fill for 1984 2.2L turbocharged engines has been increased from 4 quarts to 5 quarts. The additional quart of oil provides increased lubrication capacity desirable for high performance operation.

The dipstick tube length was increased 11 mm in production to accommodate the additional quart of oil. The new dipstick tube can be identified by its silvery color. A tube extension package was developed for engines already in the field built prior to January, 1984.

The mechanical dipstick service package consists of the following:

CAUTION: INSTALL THE EXTENSION PACKAGE ONLY ON CARS EQUIPPED WITH A GREY DIPSTICK TUBE.

Mechanical Dipstick PN 4342760

1 - Dipstick Tube Extension 1 - Engine Label 1 - Instruction Card for Operators Manual

Electronic Dipstick PN 4342759

1 - Dipstick Tube Extension
1 - Hose Clamp PN 153455
1 - Engine Label 1 - Instruction Card for Operators Manual

Use the following procedure when installing the dipstick tube package:

A. Mechanical Dipstick

1. Remove dipstick.

2. Clean all oil from the upper area of the dipstick tube. Apply a thin coating of Mopar Loctite Stud and Bearing Mount, PN 4318032, 1/8" below the top edge of the dipstick tube.
3. Slide the Extension, PN 4343623, over the tube and, using a brass drift, carefully drive the extension down until it seats on the tube.

4. Install dipstick.

5. Add one quart of oil. Check oil level and operation of dipstick.

6. Install the adhesive backed engine label on the oil filler cap.

7. Place the insert for the owners manual in the lubrication section of the owners manual.

B. Electronic Dipstick

1. Remove dipstick.

2. Remove contact plate base from dipstick tube.

3. Clean all oil from the upper area of dipstick tube. Apply a thin coat of Mopar Loctite Stud and Bearing Mount, PN 4318032, 1/2" below the top edge of dipstick tube and down to the bead.

4. Slide the Extension, PN 4343647, over the tube and, using a brass drift, carefully drive the extension until it seats against bead.

5. Remove the spring metal ring from the contact plate base and discard ring.

6. Install contact plate base on extension, using an aircraft-style Type F Miniature Hose Clamp PN 153455. Push contact plate base onto tube until base snaps into place on adapter bead, then position hose clamp over bead and tighten securely.

7. Add one quart of oil. Check oil level and operation of dipstick.

8. Install the adhesive backed engine label on oil filler cap.

9. Place the insert for owners manual in the lubrication section of the owners manual.
