SYMPTOM/CONDITION

This bulletin describes the use of a new and improved stainless steel foil wrapped exhaust seal ring to resolve two complaint conditions as outlined below.

The foil wrapped exhaust seal ring entered new vehicle production in March, 1985.

Condition 1

Exhaust flex joint (seal ring) "chirp" or "squeak" which is most noticeable when shifting from neutral to drive or reverse.

Condition 2

Momentary exhaust leak during engine rotation under acceleration.

PARTS REQUIRED

1 Exhaust Seal Ring (turbo only) PN 4301436

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Install new seal ring following the respective year service manual procedure.

To ensure a snug fit of the seal ring to the exhaust pipe, the pipe tip should be gradually expanded using an exhaust pipe expander tool until the seal ring fits snug to the pipe tip.
