SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Subject models equipped with 2.6L Non-O2 feedback carbureted engines (California) may exhibit repeated electronic module failures. For example, electronic instrument cluster or radio may have no display or erratic or no operation. Electronic voice alert may have erratic or no operation.

DIAGNOSIS
Any of the above conditions may be caused by engine compartment wiring (normally to fuel flow meter) coming in contact with alternator or power steering belts or pulleys (Figure 1). The wiring insulation wears through exposing bare wires which generates static electricity.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Inspect wiring harness at the right (passenger) side of the engine compartment for wiring coming in contact with belts or pulleys. If this condition exists, use tie strap to retain wiring back into harness no interference with pulleys or belts is possible (Figure 1). Tape wires to prevent shorts.
