SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Squeak or squeal noise from the floor console area during transaxle shifting.

DIAGNOSIS

With the engine off, engage the parking brake and depress the clutch pedal. Move the shift lever back and forth from first to second gear while listening for squeak or squeal. Repeat for third and fourth gears. If the noise is observed during this test, remove the console and repeat the test. If the noise is still present during the test then perform the following repair procedure:

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove console (if not removed during diagnosis).

2. Slide the support tube end seal off of the selector cable support tube (Figure 1).

3. Slide the seal up to the adjustment paddle and place the shifter in third gear.
4. Spray lubricant (Mopar Spray White Lube PN 4318066) or equivalent into the rod-support tube interface.

5. Place shift lever in fourth gear and reinstall the seal on the support tube. Insure that the seal is seated over the support tube flange.
6. Repeat the diagnostic procedure to verify the repair.

7. Reinstall the console.
