Damping Canister

4-156/2.6L ENGINE
The damping canister is a purge control device and does not store carburetor bowl or fuel tank vapor. The damping canister is isolated from these vapors by the purge control valve. The damping canister is connected to the purge line in series with the primary canister and the intake manifold port. The damping canister cushions the effect of a sudden release of fuel rich vapor when the purge control valve is opened. These vapors are temporarily held, then gradually released into the intake manifold.
