The following revision should be made to the 1984 service manuals for front wheel drive vehicles. This revision updates the installation procedure of Special Tool C-4811 when removing the hub from the knuckle. In some cases it is necessary to back out all three bearing retainer screws. Back out the three screws until they contact the hub, then continue backing them out equal amounts until they unseat the hub. When the screws run out of threads the hub removing tool can then be installed with the three special screws. Complete the operation as indicated in the service manual.
The reason for this update is due to the type of bearing retainer screws used in production beginning with some 1981 models that may prevent the installing of the small adapter screw.
The 1984 model tools and procedure for hub bearing and seal replacement is applicable on all domestic front wheel drive models 1978 through 1984.
