SYMPTOM/CONDITION
This condition emits a "chirp" or "squeak" sound from the exhaust seal ring-to-exhaust manifold connection. This noise is heard most often when the automatic transmission is placed in gear or a manual transmission equipped car is driven in reverse.
PARTS REQUIRED
Loctite high temperature nickel anti-seize compound #77164 or equivalent.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove two bolts holding exhaust flex joint to exhaust manifold.

2.. Remove exhaust seal ring (Figure 1).

3. Coat the outer surface of the seal ring with high temperature Loctite nickel anti-seize #77164 or equivalent (Figure 2).

4. Reinstall *seal ring on exhaust pipe and secure to manifold. Tighten flex joint bolts to 250 inch pounds (Figure 1).
5. Start engine. Move gear selector from neutral to drive and drive to reverse with foot on brake. Listen for flex joint noise.
With manual shift, drive vehicle in reverse. Listen for flex joint noise.
*If new seal ring is required, use PN 4150666 and coat it with anti-seize compound before assembly.
