Water Pump: Service and Repair

WATER PUMP-2.6L ENGINE

Removal

(1) Drain cooling system.
(2) Remove radiator hose, by-pass hose, and heater hose from water pump.
(3) Remove drive pulley shield.






(4) Remove locking screw and pivot screws (Fig. 14).
(5) Remove drive belt and remove water pump from engine.






Disassembly (Fig. 22)

(1) Remove screws (4) holding water pump to body.
(2) Discard gasket and clean gasket surfaces on water pump and body.
(3) Remove and discard 0-ring gasket and clean 0-ring groove.

Assembly

(1) Install new gasket on water pump body.
(2) Position new pump assembly on body. Install screws (4) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
(3) Position new 0-ring gasket in 0-ring groove.

Installation

(1) Position water pump on engine and install drive belt.
(2) Install pivot screws and locking screw finger tight.
(3) Tension drive belt using procedure specified in Accessory Drive Belts Section.
(4) Reinstall drive pulley cover.
(5) Reinstall radiator hose, bypass hose, and heater hose.
(6) Refill cooling system. Specifications
