1. Measure the following oil pump clearances:
a. Endplay Endplay should be .001---.006 in on 1982 models, .001---.004 in. on 1983---85 models or .001---.004 in. on 1986---88 models.
b. Outer rotor thickness. Thickness should be .825 in. minimum on 1982---85 models or .944 in. minimum on 1986---88 models. Install outer rotor with chamfered edge in pump body.
c. Clearance between rotors, should be .010 in. maximum on 1982---85 models or .008 in. maximum on 1986---88 models.
d. Outer rotor clearance. Clearance should be .014 in. maximum.
e. Oil pump cover. Clearance should be .015 in. maximum on 1982 models or .003 in. maximum on 1983---88 models.
f. Oil pressure relief valve spring length should be 1.95 inch.
