Measuring Crankshaft Journal For Taper And Out-of-Round:
Crankshaft journals should be checked for excessive wear, taper and scoring. Taper or out-of-round condition limits should not exceed .001" (0.025 mm) on any crankshaft journal. Journal grinding should not exceed .012" (0.305 mm) under the standard journal diameter.
NOTE: The thrust faces of Number 3 main bearing must not be ground. Also, care must be taken not to nick the crankpin or bearing fillets. After grinding, throughly clean the crankshaft oil galleys and bearing surfaces.
CAUTI0N: Nodular cast iron crankshafts must have the final paper or cloth polishing, after journal regrind, be in the same direction as normal engine rotation, or possible bearing failure my occur.
