Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle (Without LGH)

Disassembly Procedure

1. Remove the power steering pump and reservoir as an assembly. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (4.3L) Service and RepairPower Steering Pump Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) Service and RepairPower Steering Pump Replacement (LGH) Service and Repair.





2. Drain the power steering fluid from the power steering pump.

3. Remove the pump mounting studs (2).

4. Remove the connector and fitting assembly (4).

5. Remove the O-ring seal (3) from the connector and fitting assembly.

6. If replacement is necessary, remove the control valve assembly and the flow control spring from the pump housing assembly. Refer to Power Steering Pump Flow Control Valve Replacement - Off Vehicle Service and Repair.





7. Remove the reservoir assembly (1) from the pump housing assembly (2).





8. Remove the O-ring seals (1, 4, 5).

9. Remove the magnet (3).

10. Clean the magnet.

11. Inspect the welch plug in the power steering pump housing (2). Do not remove the welch plug. If the welch plug is deformed or dislodged, replace the power steering pump. Assembly Procedure





Note:
Use new O-ring seals when assembling the power steering pump assembly.

1. Lubricate the NEW O-ring seals (1, 4, 5) with power steering fluid.

2. Install the O-ring seals to the pump housing assembly.

3. Install the control valve assembly and flow control spring to the pump housing assembly (2). Refer to Power Steering Pump Flow Control Valve Replacement - Off Vehicle Service and Repair.

4. Install the magnet (3) to the pump housing assembly.





5. Connect the reservoir assembly (1) to the pump housing assembly (2).





6. Install the O-ring seal (3).

7. Install the connector and fitting assembly (4) to the pump housing (1). Hand tighten the connector and fitting assembly.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

8. Install the pump mounting studs (2) to the pump housing and tighten to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).

9. Tighten the connector and fitting assembly to 62 Nm (46 lb ft).

10. Install the power steering pump and reservoir as an assembly. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (4.3L) Service and RepairPower Steering Pump Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) Service and RepairPower Steering Pump Replacement (LGH) Service and Repair.
