-
Wait to Start Lamp Control Circuit

Diagnostic Fault Information

Typical Scan Tool Data

Circuit/System Description

The engine control module (ECM) provides a ground to the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit when conditions require the Wait To Start Lamp to be turned on. The ECM monitors the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit for proper operation.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Battery voltage is greater than 11 V.

* DTC P0381 runs continuously when the ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The ECM detects and open or short to voltage on the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit for greater than 1 second.

* The ECM detects short to ground on the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit for greater than 3 second.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0381 is a Type B DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0381 is a Type B DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, command the Wait to Start Lamp ON and OFF with a scan tool. Observe the Wait to Start Lamp turns ON and OFF with each command.

2. Command the Wait to Start Lamp ON and OFF with a scan tool while observing the following control circuit status parameters:

* Wait To Start Ind. Ctrl. Ckt. Short Gnd. Test Status

* Wait To Start Ind. Ctrl. Ckt. Open Test Status

* Wait To Start Ind. Ctrl. Ckt. Short Volts Test Status

Each parameter should change from OK and Not Run or from Not Run and OK.

3. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition ON, verify that the instrument panel cluster warning indicators are illuminated.

If the instrument panel cluster warning indicators are not illuminated, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, replace the P16 instrument panel cluster.

2. Ignition OFF, disconnect ECM X1 harness connector. Ignition ON, the Wait to Start Lamp should not illuminate.

If the Wait to Start Lamp is illuminated, test the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit terminal X1 20 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the P16 instrument panel cluster.

3. Ignition ON, connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the Wait To Start Indicator Control circuit terminal X1 20 and ground. The Wait to Start Lamp should illuminate.

If the Wait to Start Lamp does not illuminate, test the Wait to Start Indicator Control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the P16 instrument panel cluster/bulb.

4. If all circuits/connections test normal, replace the K20 engine control module.
