Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The driver information center (DIC) switch is a multiplexed switch. The DIC switch signal circuit is pulled up to battery voltage in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The IPC also provides the IPC with a low reference circuit. The DIC switch input to the IPC is pulled low when a switch is activated. The DIC switch is a momentary contact that connects a series of resistors in a resistor ladder format. The IPC monitors the DIC switch signal circuit to determine the DIC switch inputs. Each switch state - Set/Reset, Trip/Fuel Information, Vehicle Information and Personalization corresponds to a certain resistance value. The IPC determines the switch pressed by the voltage drop across the resistors.
The head-up display (HUD) is a display system that optically projects vehicle information onto the windshield. The HUD has an electric tilt adjust that is controlled by the up and down switches. Operating these switches directs the motor to move the HUD image up or down on the windshield. The HUD is equipped with a page switch that scrolls through multiple messages present on the HUD. The HUD is also equipped with automatic dimming. Dimming is controlled by a HUD dimmer switch. All three switches control the HUD by grounding the HUD switch input signals. The dimmer switch uses a variable resistor to control the HUD intensity where the lower the resistance, the brighter the HUD display.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is in ACCESSORY or RUN.
Conditions for Setting the DTC

The IPC detects that the DIC switch is stuck.

The HUD detects that the HUD switch is stuck.

The IPC detects that the DIC switch signal circuit is shorted to battery.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The IPC ignores the DIC switch inputs.
* The HUD ignores the HUD switch inputs.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC becomes history when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present.
* The history DTC clears after 40 malfunction-free warm-up cycles.
Diagnostic Aids
* When the DIC switches are stuck, only the TRIP/FUEL switch functions correctly. When the TRIP/FUEL switch is stuck, all other DIC switches function correctly.
* Only the DIC and HUD switch signal circuits can be diagnosed as shorted to battery.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, verify that when the DIC switches are pressed and released the DIC scan tool parameters toggle between Active and Inactive.
• If the parameters do not toggle between Active and Inactive, refer to DIC Switch Malfunction.
2. Ignition ON, verify that when the HUD switches (if equipped) are pressed and released the HUD scan tool parameters toggle between Active and Inactive.
• If the parameter does not toggle between Active and Inactive, refer to HUD Switch Malfunction.
Circuit/System Testing
DIC Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the DIC switch assembly.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
4. Ignition ON, verify that all of the scan tool DIC Switch parameters are Inactive.
• If any are not Inactive, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.

5. Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the low reference circuit terminal 2. Verify the scan tool DIC Switch parameters, except the DIC Fuel Info. parameter, are Active.
• If any are not Active, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
6. Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground. Verify the scan tool DIC Fuel Info. parameter is Active.
• If not Active, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
7. If all the circuits test normal, test or replace the DIC switch assembly.
HUD Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the HUD switch assembly.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the low reference circuit terminal 3 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, verify that all of the scan tool HUD Switch parameters are Inactive.
• If any are not Inactive, test the signal circuit terminal 6 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the HUD.
4. Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 3. Verify the scan tool HUD Switch parameters are Active.
• If any are not Active, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
5. If all the circuits test normal, test or replace the HUD switch assembly.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
