Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Feed Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning

Natural gas is highly flammable. In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, keep sparks, flames, and smoking materials away from the vehicle while you perform the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel system service.

Warning

The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) system operates at pressures up to 24820 kpa (3600 psi). Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure before servicing CNG fuel system components in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.

1. Close ALL manual tank valves. Refer to Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Aft Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Aft Tank , Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Cargo Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Cargo Tank , and Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Midship Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Midship Tank.

2. Relieve the compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system pressure. Refer to Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Pressure Relief (With CH-48027) Service and Repair.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

5. Loosen the high pressure fuel line fitting at the tank/fitting/valve several turns to allow residual system pressure to be released.

6. Completely disconnect fuel line from fittings when fuel line can be moved away from the mating fitting by hand.





7. Disconnect the hose fitting at the fuel line fitting and tank valve.

8. Remove the fuel line from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

1. Connect the CNG fuel line to the fuel fittings and tighten using NEW O-rings. Lubricate the new O-rings with petroleum jelly or equivalent before installation. Tighten the fuel line fittings to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).

2. Open ALL manual tank valves.

3. Install ALL fuel tank covers. Refer to Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Aft Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Aft Tank , Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Cargo Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Cargo Tank , and Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Midship Tank Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement - Midship Tank.

4. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

5. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fittings with the J-45878 - detectoror an equivalent leak detector.
