P2266

DTC P2266

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions)provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC P2266
- Water in Fuel Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

A sensor mounted in the bottom of the fuel filter housing is use to detect water in the fuel. The water in fuel sensor has an indicator control circuit and a low reference circuit. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the voltage to the water in fuel sensor. If the voltage is incorrect, the ECM will illuminate the water in fuel lamp and set the appropriate DTC.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Engine speed is greater than 600 RPM.
* This diagnostic runs continuously.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The water in fuel sensor voltage is greater than 4.8 V for more than 1 s.
* The water in fuel sensor voltage is less than 0.2 V for more than 1 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P2266 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P2266 is a Type C DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

Water in the fuel will not set this DTC, but the water in fuel lamp will illuminate if this DTC sets.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Observe the Water in Fuel Sensor parameter with a scan tool. The parameter should read No Water.
2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B116 water in fuel sensor.
2. Test for less than 5 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.

If greater than the specified value, repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Water in Fuel Sensor parameter displays No Water.

If other than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.

Note: If fuse opens, repair the short to voltage in the signal circuit.

4. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 1. Verify the scan tool Water in Fuel Sensor parameter displays Water.

If other than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 engine control module.

5. If all circuits test normal, replace the B116 water in fuel sensor.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.

* Water in Fuel Indicator Sensor Replacement (Removal and Replacement)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning)for ECM replacement, programming, and setup.
