Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction (With RPO AXC/AXE)

Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction (With RPO AXC/AXE)

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) receive a discreet input from the driver door ajar switch and the passenger door ajar switch respectively. Likewise, the body control module (BCM) receives a discrete input from both the left and right rear door ajar switches. The door ajar switches are normally open when the doors are fully closed. When a door is open, the door ajar switch contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) displays the appropriate door open message when one of the doors is open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from either the BCM, DDM or PDM indicating the door ajar status. If the message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), a chime will sound as a reminder of the door ajar status.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, with all doors closed, observe the scan tool Left Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter and Right Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter while opening and closing the rear doors. The parameter should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.

If the value does not change, refer to Rear Door Ajar Switch Malfunction.

2. Observe the scan tool Driver Door Ajar Sw parameter and Passenger Door Ajar Sw. parameter while opening and closing the driver door and front passenger door. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

If the value does not change, refer to Front Door Ajar Switch Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Rear Door Ajar Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door latch assembly.
2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between ground circuit terminal listed below and ground:

* Left Rear door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 6
* Right Rear door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 3

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Closed.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM

* Left Rear door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 4
* Right Rear door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below:

* Left Rear door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 4 and ground circuit terminal 6
* Right Rear door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3

5. Verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Ajar.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear door latch assembly.

Front Door Ajar Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate front door latch assembly.
2. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between low reference circuit terminal listed below and ground:

* Driver door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 8.
* Passenger door latch assembly ground circuit terminal 3.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door module.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Ajar Sw. parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door module.

* Driver door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 6
* Passenger door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1.

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal and the ground circuit terminal listed below:

* Driver door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 6 and ground circuit terminal 8
* Passenger door latch assembly signal circuit terminal 1 and ground circuit terminal 3.

5. Verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Switch parameter is Door Ajar.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the door module.

6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the front door latch assembly.

Component Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch assembly.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal and the ground terminals listed below:

* Driver door latch assembly signal terminal 6 and ground terminal 8
* Left Rear door latch assembly signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Passenger and Right Rear door latch assembly signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3

If not the specified value, replace the door latch assembly.

3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1.0 ohms between the signal and the ground terminals listed below.

* Driver door latch assembly signal terminal 6 and ground terminal 8
* Left Rear door latch assembly signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Passenger and Right Rear door latch assembly signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3

If greater than the specified range, replace the door latch assembly.
